CHAMBER MUSIC WEST, CITY OF PEORIA PERFORMING ARTS GRANTING PROGRAM BRING PHOENIX BOYS CHOIR'S TOUR CHOIR TO THEATRE WORKS/PEORIA CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS, APRIL 20

PEORIA, Ariz. (March 14, 2008): The Phoenix Boys Choir Tour Choir, winner of the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna last summer, will bring their greatest hits to Theater Works/Peoria Center for the Performing Arts at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 20.

Presented by Chamber Music West and partially underwritten by the City of Peoria Performing Arts Granting Program, the Tour Choir, under the baton of Artistic Director Georg Stangelberger, will perform a diverse program including sacred, secular and classical music, show tunes and several patriotic numbers.

The Tour Choir is the top performing choir of the Phoenix Boys Choir, and, in addition to concerts in Arizona, performs on concert stages throughout the world. The Tour Choir has earned a Grammy Award and recently appeared at Carnegie Hall and in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

With more than 225 singers in five choirs, The Phoenix Boys Choir is the largest boychoir in the nation. Its unique and rapidly expanding neighborhood training choir model is being replicated in other cities across the nation.

Training choirs are conducted in Peoria, Tempe, downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale "so that boys from around the Valley have the chance to experience the Phoenix Boys Choir in their own neighborhoods," Stangelberger said.

Ten Tour Choir members live in West Valley communities of Peoria, Glendale, Avondale, Goodyear and Anthem.

Concert tickets are $24 and can be purchased at the Theater Works/Peoria Performing Arts Center Box Office. For ticket information, call (623-815-7930.

Chamber Music West (www.chambermusicwest.com) has been presenting the world's finest chamber musicians since 1977 and will be announcing its seven-concert 2008-09 season soon.

The City of Peoria Performing Arts Grant Program was developed in 1997 to increase arts opportunities for Peoria residents. Qualified nonprofit organizations can apply for up to $3,000 in project grant assistance for performing arts or visual arts projects that must take place in Peoria and demonstrate a direct benefit to the community. A total of $30,000 in grants will be awarded in 2008. For information, visit www.peoriaaz.gov.
