Sun Cities Chamber Music Society announces name change, new venue, new office location - same beautiful music on its 30th Anniversary season.
Sun City, AZ - October 1, 2006 - The Sun Cities Chamber Music Society today announced its new name, Chamber Music West, which better reflects the audience served by their six-concert series as the only professional chamber music series presented in the West Valley.
Chamber Music West President, Muriel Stone Johnson said, "The Society has gone through several name changes during the past 29 seasons, however, the legacy of presenting the world's finest chamber music has not."
Conceived of in 1977 by a group of Sun City residents, when the nearest professional chamber music series was thirty-five miles away in Scottsdale, Chamber Music West was originally incorporated in 1979 as the Sun City Fine Arts Society. In 1982, its name was changed to Sun Cities Chamber Music Society to reflect the growth of its sister community, Sun City West.
The original concerts were at Mountain View Auditorium in Sun City, then Sundial Auditorium, moving to Bellevue Heights Church mid-season 1998. On November 6, 2006, the St. Petersburg String Quartet will kick off CMW's 30th anniversary series as Chamber Music West moves a mile to the west - to Faith Presbyterian Church, 16000 N Del Webb Boulevard, Sun City, a larger venue. "Faith Presbyterian Church has welcomed us with open arms, even doing a bit of remodeling to better accommodate our artists." said immediate past president, Carole Sleight, who guided the move and name change through the very busy 2005-2006 season.
