Ren Zhang, pianist, December 3, 2007
Ren Zhang is dedicated to reviving and performing music in the grand romantic tradition and has established himself as one of the unique pianistic characters of his generation. A native of Shanghai, he began piano studies at age four and entered the Shanghai Conservatory at 12, where he was awarded the gold medal in the National Young Pianist Competition. At the Manhattan School he was awarded the Ven Gelder Memorial Award and Bachelor and Master degrees. His New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall won him the Shura Cherkassky Award from Artists International.
