PRESIDENT’S ANNUAL REPORT 2010-2011 CHAMBER MUSIC WEST ANNUAL MEETING
MAY 12, 2011
We had promised a jubilant and exciting last concert season to close our history, and it met all our expectations. Chanticleer's rousing male voices inaugurated the season, followed by the beautiful baroque music of Interpreti Veneziani, the exceptional musicality of the Pacifica Quartet and the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, Caio Pagano, Arizona's own superb pianist, and the season finale with our favorite couple Wu Han, piano and David Finckel, cello. Thank you to Nancy Root and Committee.
The School Program was much diminished this year, only four concerts were given for local schools, but the quality of what CMW presented through its artists was outstanding as usual. We reached approximately 530 students. Thank you to Susan Keedy and Committee.
Thank you to Nancy Ehlen for her hard work in finding patrons, benefactors and sponsors for both our concerts and school programs. We did very well in this area.
Our Celebratory Reception in April, primarily to thank our subscribers and guests, although not well attended, was certainly appreciated by those who were there. We did welcome the President, Ann Stanton and several Board members of the Phoenix Chamber Music Society . We also welcomed members from the Wickenburg Cultural Organization Board to whom CMW paid forward a bequest of $5,000 from Lucy M. Baisden, to further music education for Wickenburg area students. Thank you to all the reception Committee members.
A heartfelt thank you to Jane King, our Treasurer, who has guided us with fine precision and brought us to the end of our history financially whole, with our heads held high. Thank you also for her wonderful memento, "Crescendo, A Brief History of Chamber Music West 1977-2011". All who received it were thrilled to recall the memories within the book.
Our subscriptions were down again this past year to 205. Including individual tickets sales, we estimate our average attendance at 240-250 per concert (except Chanticleer, for which over 250 single tickets were sold).
Finally, I thank all the board Members who served these last two years and have been such a help to Chamber Music West. To the staff, my grateful appreciation, especially to Mona Myhre, who kept the organization running smoothly, and guided all of us over the years.
My best wishes to all and hope that our paths will cross from time to time.
Respectfully submitted,
Ellen C. Straney, President Chamber Music West
